My name is Mintzu Chen (they/she), and I’m a visual artist and art educator based in Brooklyn, NY. I hold a BFA from VCUArts in animation, video, & new media and an MA in art education from City College of NY. You can usually find me frolicking around NYC with a camera, sketchbook, and an iced latte!

As an artist, I’m enamored by everyday ephemera–still lives that evidence invisible human rituals, long shadows of commuting pedestrians, and obscured reflections or silhouettes of myself. In my studio, my creative practice is a personal ritual of returning to my authenticity. I have exhibited artworks in both solo and group exhibitions at Love & Matter and Compton-Goethels

As an art educator, my end goal is always to strengthen solidarity among diverse and marginalized communities through analyzing, creating, and exhibiting visual art. My pedagogy is anti-racist, culturally responsive, and most importantly, critically reflective. I have taught studio art, digital art, photography, and animation to K-12 participants in the Department of Education, Brooklyn Museum, and numerous non-profit organizations.
